20-yard dumpsters are very popular because of the variety of projects that they can be used for. Here are some of them.
Room remodels
Contractors and homeowners rent a 20-yard dumpster for kitchen remodeling and master bathroom renovations. Debris from these projects, including plaster, wood, drywall, countertops, cabinets, floors, and carpets can be accommodated in this type of construction dumpster.
Home cleanouts
A 20-yard dumpster is required for cleaning out our homes and garages, or when we want to downsize before moving. The junk from decluttering the basement, attic, garage, or any part of your home, which can include furniture, electronics, appliances, and general trash are accepted for disposal in these containers.
Landscaping waste
20-yard dumpsters can also be used for many types of projects outdoors. These can include cleanup of a large yard, removal of trees, removal of bricks or concrete paths, driveway, or sidewalk repair.
These types of projects can include different kinds of heavy debris that can easily be accommodated on these containers, including blocks, stumps, bricks, concrete, asphalt, and yard waste.
Roofing Projects
Roofing projects, like shingle re-roofing or completing a roof tear-off, can use a 20-yard dumpster for disposal as well.
As we have seen above, pretty much any waste from remodeling, landscaping, and other heavy debris can be disposed of in a 20-yard dumpster. In terms of trash bags, a 20-yard container can hold around 120 of the 13-gallon kind.
Some wastes are prohibited from being disposed of in a 20-yard dumpster. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, hazardous waste, batteries, automotive fluids, and tires.
If you are unsure please feel free to contact us for other prohibited items.
A 20-yard dumpster can typically hold 2 to 3 tons or 4000 to 6000 pounds. This capacity is equivalent to holding about 10 to 12 pickup truck loads worth of waste or debris.
A 20 Yard dumpster can handle a lot of waste and will save you many trips to your local landfill.
For heavy and dense debris, like concrete or roof shingles, a 20-yard dumpster can cover up to 10 tons. The covered weight limit may vary depending on location, debris type, and local regulations.
In terms of volume, it can hold up to 20 cubic yards of material. This is the same as carrying 130 13-gallon trash bags.
Even though 20-yard roll-offs can carry 8, 9, or more than 10 tons of debris, as they are strong and large enough to do so, most dumpster rental companies will not allow this, as it requires special heavy equipment to haul this type of weight. A Dump truck may be better suited to haul 10 tons or more.
The weight is too much for the truck to be able to lift and haul the container. And, there are also restrictions, which vary by city or county, on a truck hauling this much weight.
Furthermore, there is a charge per ton of waste delivered at the landfill. Without weight limits, then the rental cost of dumpsters would be much higher because of this important aspect.
There are rental companies that offer 2 tons included in their pricing and others can offer as much as an 8-ton weight allowance on larger containers.
This will depend on the debris type you are disposing of.
When empty, a roll-off dumpster weighs approximately 3,040 to 4,000 lbs. However, an empty dumpster weight does not really matter. What matters is the weight of the waste contained in it. The pricing is not affected by the weight of the Dumpster, just the items inside. When your trash is hauled to the landfill, they will weigh the truck full, and after dumping your waste, the truck will be weighed again and your total weight will be the difference.
On average, the national cost for a 20-yard dumpster ranges from $300 to $633. This rate includes delivery, pickup, disposal, taxes, and a specified weight limit.
However, the actual dumpster price will really depend on your location and the type of waste or debris that you are putting in it.
Charges for fuel surcharge, overages, tonnage, late fees, and type of debris may also apply.
Extra cost could range anywhere from $238 to $749. If you don’t want to be surprised when you receive your final bill, make sure to ask us about other extra charges when you rent a dumpster. We give you all fees and costs associated upfront.
No hidden fees or charges.

If you want to maintain the total weight of your load, make sure that you keep the container covered with a tarp so that nobody else can throw their garbage into it. The tarp is also good for keeping rain from wetting the contents of the container. These situations can increase the total weight of the load. This is very important, especially if you choose to get a 10-yard container rather than the 20-yard dumpster. It could cost you more if you go over the included weight limit.
This dumpster is very common. It is rectangular in shape, or can be a bath-tub style it has an open-top, and a hinge-opening door for making loading easier.
If you are loading heavy or bulky items, like concrete, furniture, demolition debris, appliances, etc., the doors will enable you to easily load them.
Some open-top roll-off dumpsters have a set of double walk-in doors so you don’t have to toss your items over the side. All you need to do is to open the doors, walk right in, and place your waste where you want it.
Be sure to ask us if the container has doors because some older containers may not have one. You need a 6 ft. clearance between the container and large objects to enable the door to swing open.
These trailers are specially-designed when a standard dumpster is not a possible option. This can still load 20 cubic yards of disposable material. This can be used when the ground is uneven or if it is soft.
This size of a dumpster trailer is about the same as a standard roll-off dumpster. If a standard dumpster won’t work, then this is a good alternative. And because the dumpster has tires, there is a low risk of property damage.

To be able to raise the rail and roll-off the dumpster, you will need a vertical clearance of 23 feet. Make sure that there are no low hanging branches and wires in the delivery spot.
The dumpster can be delivered to your home even if you are not around. Dumpster delivery routes are based on fuel-efficiency, so they can arrive in your home any time of the day.
It is a safety hazard if your dumpster is overloaded. Ensure that everything is inside the container and filled to the rim. If your trash or junk is piled high above the rim, we will not be able to haul the 20 yard dumpster. You will be charged a fee. It cannot be hauled away if it is overfilled. You might even have to off-load some of the debris before we can safely and properly haul the dumpster.
On or before the last day of your rental period, schedule a pickup for your dumpster. You may also need to schedule an empty-and-return service, depending on the scope of your job.
